One of the basic rights of children is the right to education. PAMMORA works to support the fulfilment of this right through the implementation of education-related programs supporting the most vulnerable communities. The following are programs that PAMMORA implements:
I) School fees and scholastic material support for vulnerable children in primary schools:
- Noting the barrier to education being a lack of access to school fees by primary caregivers, PAMMORA supports school fees payment for vulnerable children at the verge of dropping out of school.
- The parents of beneficiary children are supported to start projects to improve their economic resilience and over time, we’ve transitioned from 100 to 0% school fees support as a sustainability measure after parents have been able to meet the school requirements of their children. Children are also supported with education supplies, including stationery, books and school uniforms.
- PAMMORA has previously distributed scholastic material to primary school children in Muduuma –Mpigi District, St. Agnes Primary School in Entebbe, Wakiso and Rukingiri districts.
II) Vocational training for out of school youth
- The support for vocational education aims to develop skills and competencies of youth so that they meet the expectations of future employers when on the job and/or are able to start their own income-generating projects based on the skills that they have accumulated. It layers learning and building expertise through community apprenticeship.
- PAMMORA targets out-of-school girls and boys to undertake vocational training as a way to improve their economic resilience.
- This way, PAMMORA aims to develop youth so that they have exposure to routine expertise which promotes mastery of everyday work, become resourceful, develop functional literacies and craftsmanship by taking pride and thoughtfulness towards their work, and master a positive and resilient attitude to work.
III) Guidance and Counselling
- PAMMORA works with expert volunteers to deliver guidance, counselling and inspirational talk services to school and out-of-school children for them to make the right life choices and choose career paths of their interest. This happens in selected schools with whom arrangements are agreed upon and at agreed-upon community sites.
