PAMMORA works towards seeing children who are healthy and feeding on continuous balanced diets. Under health and nutrition, PAMMORA promotes:
I) Sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
- PAMMORA Foundation coordinates sexual reproductive health interventions that are aimed at increasing access to youth friendly information and services for young people. Also, PAMMORA integrates sexual reproductive health in its programming and young people are empowered to make informed decisions and a health enterprising lifestyle to prevent new HIV and STIs infections and unplanned pregnancies. PAMMORA works with Village Health Teams (VHTs) and Community Case Care Workers, to deliver culturally acceptable comprehensive sexuality education. We also intend to equip young people with economic, social, and cognitive skills, as well as pair them with mentors who are trusted persons to positively guide and mold them into responsible citizens.
II) Menstrual Hygiene Management:
- PAMMORA Foundation mobilizes resources for menstrual hygiene management for girls in and out of school, living on the streets, and survivors of sexual gender-based violence. The aim is to ensure that girls have adequate information, support, and enabling environment for managing menstruation with dignity, safety, and comfort. A total of 500 girls have been assisted to date. They have been provided with sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene mentorship.
III) Psychosocial Support:
- PAMMORA promotes mental health and psychosocial support targeting children who have experienced distressing conditions like minor survivors of sexual gender-based violence, rape and children living with HIV. Mental health screening is coordinated to ensure that children are linked to the appropriate mental health services.
- PAMMORA works together with Ministry of Health through community health centres, child and family protection offices at Sub County and district levels, Community Case Care Workers and Village health teams (VHTs) in promoting mental health.
IV) Promoting positive nutrition outcomes and adherence through home grown backyard fruit and vegetable gardens:
- PAMMORA provides agricultural training and farm inputs to households to be able to grow and produce nutritional foods for children and family members to maintain balanced diets. This program is supervised through periodic follow-up and monitoring visits including agricultural extension services by professional local government staff. - Healthy eating is essential for children’s good health, growth and development. Healthy feeding in childhood means they will have less chance of developing chronic diseases that might obstruct their good growth and development.
